Summer Swims across America and Europe

While annual swims like the La Jolla Rough Water Swim in California, the 2.4-mile Waikiki Roughwater Swim in Honolulu, the 3K Golden Gate Bridge Swim in San Francisco, the Hudson River Swim for Life and the Hudson River 5K Race in New York, and the Atlantic City Pageant Ocean Swim offer great open water swimming opportunities for swimmers across America, the European summer open water season is also coming to a climax.

LEN (Ligue Européenne de Natation) represents 50 national European Swimming Federations and organizes open water swimming races throughout Europe.

Season-ending races include the 3K, 5K and 10K Open Belgium Championships to be held on August 31st in Willebroek, Belgium.

The Porec International Swim is the 5K and 10K LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup Finals also held on August 31st in Croatia.

The 5K Anadolu International Race will be held in Adana, Turkey on September 6-7.

Well, now our events have passed, but in Spain, in Navia, we have celebrated the fourth leg of Open Water Swimming LEN Cup and the traditional competition "Descenso a Nado Ría de Navia" with 50 previous editions. Both events are international.

You can find more information and classifications on www.rianavia.com

Mr. Munatones, I,ve seen that you are a very special fan and a wise person of OWS, and I read frequently your blog because of the rising interest of your posts.

Someday, It would be a dream to see you interested in our competitions.

Ignacio, I would love to learn more about the swims in Spain. I was one of the USA team coaches at the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona and the 5K, 10K and 25K races were great, especially the men's 25K race where David Meca, Yuri Kudinov and Petar Stoychev fought valiently for 5 hours and finished together. It was one of the most amazing races I ever saw and one of the most enjoyable open water events I have ever participated in. Please send more information on the major Spanish races and I will write about them. Thank you very much.
