Varadero Beach, also known as Playa Azul (Blue Beach), in Cuba is the absolutely gorgeous venue for a masters open water swim in March or April every year. Under 60 year olds swim 3K; everyone over 60 years old, swims 1.5K or 2K depending on the ocean conditions.
Varadero Beach is in a resort town in Matanzas province and one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean.
Another masters open water swimming competition in Cuba takes place in October in Havana City during the masters national championships. But the FederaciĆ³n Cubana de NataciĆ³n is also promoting 1K and 1.5K for children during the summer months.
