Martin Cullen, Race Director, reported of a dry and sunny day at the Lough Erne Irish Championships until the early afternoon when "bits of rain" started to fall (see photo).
29-year-old Lisa Broadfield of Bremerton, Washington (USA, shown leading the race above) won the 17K race in Lough Erne, Fermanagh in 3 hours and 49 minutes, the third fastest time in the history of the event.
Simon Lee of the UK finished second in 4 hours and 2 minutes followed by 16-year-old Owen O'Keefe of Ireland. Doing a version of Michael Phelps, Kathryn Mason of the UK completed the swim in 6 hours doing butterfly.
The Irish Long Distance Swimming Association also concurrently held its inaugural 10K event which saw Rachel Doyle, Eoin McDonald and Sharon Patterson finishing in fast times.
