Van Wisse Takes Lead Around Manhattan Island

John Van Wisse has built an insurmountable lead as the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim comes down to the last hour.

In a close battle with fellow Australian Penny Palfrey for the first two hours, John continued his relentless 78 stroke-per-minute pace to gradually pull ahead.

John, the defending champion, remains ahead of the Kenyon College Vicelords who are the top relay.

More results later.

Thank you so much for your twitter reporting. We followed all day. First from our desktop, then from the view out our window (9 AM), and later by blackberry on a road trip. Your commentary made it exciting and helped us understand what we were witnessing. Sincerely, the Chadwick family
