Repeat The Feat To Help Others

Photo shows Tom Linthicum of the South End Rowing Club hydrating during one of his training swims in the cold San Francisco Bay.

Tom, who swam across Lake Tahoe in 2006 in 16.5 hours (see video below), is now training for his second attempt of the 33.7K (21-mile) lake located high in the mountains between the states of California and Nevada.

In July, Tom will repeat the feat as an awareness and fundraising event in honor of his two daughters who are living with hydrocephalus and the estimated 1 million other people of all ages in the United States.

The 2009 Point Bonita Swim was held in February in the 11°C (52°F) waters under the Golden Gate Bridge and the watchful eye of organizer and local living legend Bob Roper.

A video by Allen Luong captures swimmers Joe Butler, Darrin Connolly, Michele Deasey, Cathy Delneo, Tom Linthicum, Dusty Nickel, Karen Rogers, Paul Saab and Paul Springer doing the event from pre-start to finish:
