Jennifer Figge’s
AC2100 swim has been delayed a few weeks. The
AC2100 is nicknamed for the 2,100 miles that
Jennifer plans to swim in 6-8 hour segments per day for 2 months.
Jennifer, a nominee for the 2008
World Open Water Swimming Female of the Year, plans to share her progress from
Cape Verde, off the coast of Africa, to
Barbados, off the coast of Venezuela, via an online GPS system so supporters and media can follow her across the ocean.
Jennifer’s customized 50-foot catamaran, the
Carried Away, and her supplies are being shipped from
Fort Lauderdale to the
Canary Islands. After securing provisions on the
Canary Islands, the escort crew will sail to
Cape Verde where
Jennifer and her physician
Jerry Homish will be waiting. Her adventure will start around mid-December.
Jennifer's swim will benefit the
UNICEF initiative called
Drink 1, Give 10 program that supplies clean water to impoverished areas in Africa.
Volvic will donate US$0.40 every mile Jennifer swims during her adventure to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to benefit the “
Drink 1, Give” program. "
I'm thrilled that every stroke I take in the Atlantic Ocean water after I depart from off the coast of Africa will help provide clean water to children [in Africa]. It will motivate and inspire me to accomplish this goal."

Jennifer Figge’s 3,800K (2,100-mile) swim across the Atlantic, the AC2100, from Cape Verde, off the coast of Africa, to Barbados, can be followed online via the Spot Satellite GPS Messenger service.
