The second race of the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup 2009 will take place this Saturday in Setubal Bay, Portugal. Ten of the Olympic 10K open water swimmers have entered the race which will lead to a great competition.
Among men the roster includes Thomas Lurz of Germany, the bronze medalist in Beijing, the always fast Spyridon Gianniotis of Greece, Allan Carmo of Brazil, Luis Escobar of Mexico, Arseniy Lavrentyev of Portugal and Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria will fight it out. Jakub Fichtl of the Czech Republic, Luiz Lima of Brazil and Mazen Aziz of Egypt are also expected to compete.
The Olympic women will include Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil and her teammate Poliana Okimoto as well as Daniela Inacio of Portugal, Angela Maurer of Germany, Stefanie Biller of Germany and Alejandra Gonzalez of Mexico..
The Setubal Bay International Swim Marathon will be held off the Atlantic coast of Portugal. The race consists of five 2K rectangular laps in waters with a temperature between 18-19°C. A total of US$20,000 in prize money will be awarded.
