FINA Open Water Swimming Development Program

The FINA Development Program has been held in numerous countries from Australia to the Cayman Islands. This FINA Development Program also includes a FINA Open Water Swimming Referees and Officials Clinic.

Shelley Taylor-Smith, Honorary Secretary of the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee recommends the Program. "It is imperative for the [global] development of open water swimming for coaches, athletes, supports and officials to access the FINA Development Program."

National federations will benefit from the years of experience of a highly qualified FINA Open Water Swimming Lecturer who will conduct the clinic and explain the FINA Open Water Swimming Rules & Guidelines for staging open water swimming competitions. An Open Water Swimming certification is also awarded at the end of the comprehensive clinic.

With the growth of the sport, it is prudent to keep up-to-date with all the changes and trends going. Shelley says, "The FINA Congress will be held in Rome in July 2009 at the FINA World Swimming Championships. Many rules have been introduced as a result of inclusion into the Olympic Program. The rule book and open water swimming guidelines will both be updated."
