Rice University, the defending champions of the ASA Open Water Swimming Collegiate National Championships, are back and ready to defend their title tomorrow in the 5K race in Mansfield Dam Park, Lake Travis, Texas.
The Rice Owls will be led by Brittany Massangale, the defending champion. Massangale has a lot of open water swimming experience, including a 12th place finish in the 5K at the 2006 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Naples, Italy.
Any student, currently enrolled full-time in an accredited institution of higher eduction, including any post high school accredited vocational or technical school, junior college, community college, college or university, including graduate schools, medical schools, law schools and post-graduate studies are eligible to enter if they are also members of the American Swimming Association (ASA). Additionally, any full-time student including professional swimmers, those who have used up their NCAA eligibility or are otherwise ineligible for NCAA competition, are also eligible.

The Dam 5K will also be held in Lake Travis right before the ASA Open Water Swimming Collegiate National Championships.
