Incredible Olympic Rematch

On September 13 in northern England, the Great North Swim will be the site to an incredible televised rematch between Olympic 10K Marathon Swim gold medalist Maarten van der Weijden, silver medalist David Davies and bronze medalist Thomas Lurz.

The three Olympic 10K stars will continue their battle from Beijing in the largest lake in England, where the 1-mile Great North Swim is a made-for-television event. The short swim seems to favor Davies, but the race will require the swimmer to run in and out of the lake for a short distance at the halfway point - for entertaining TV camera views. The water temperature will be about 16ºC (61ºF).

2,200 other open water swimmers will take part in the first-year event riding on the coattails of 3 British swimmers winning 50% of the available Olympic 10K Marathon Swim medals in Beijing.

Silver medalist Keri-Anne Payne and bronze medalist are the featured female swimmers in the women's field.
