Over the last few weeks, these are some of the Mobile Open Water Alerts that have been delivered:
Racing Tip: The Russian national team open water swimmers take 3 different types of hydration at different points during their major 10K races.
Beijing Olympics: 2 Israeli swimmers who qualified for the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim were not approved by their federation to swim in the Olympics.
Open Water Heroes: Chloe Sutton, America's 10K swimmer in Beijing, did a 8:31 in the 800 free for 3rd at the US Olympic Trial.
Races around the World: Larisa Ilchenko of Russia, the undefeated 5K and 10K world champion since 2004, is expected to enter the Ocotber 2008 Tiburon Mile.
Open Water Heroes: Maarten van der Weijden, a leukemia survivor, sleeps in a high-altitude tent every night to prepare for the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim.
Swims around the World: 12 swimmers will attempt the 21-mile Catalina Channel this July and August. Water temperature in the channel is already 68 degrees.
Racing Tip: Experienced open water swimmers put 1-3 gel packs in their suits to take during 10K swims. If they miss a feeding, they can take a gel.
