Olympic 10K Marathon Swim Qualification Race in Seville

The video below shows the very dramatic Olympic 10K Marathon Swim qualification race from the 2008 World Open Water Swimming Championships.

In this video that was spliced together from the footage from 5 different cameras on the race course, you can see the following scenes: (1) the men's 10K start where 55 of the world's best open water swimmers dive from a floating dock, (2) the feeding station where a swimmer takes a swig of Gatorade, and (3) the exciting finish where Vladimir Dyatchin of Russia just touches out David Davies of Great Britain.

If you look closely at Dyatchin and Davies, you can see where Davies gets clipped in the chip by Dyatchin about 3 meters from the finish which causes Davies to lift up his head and gives Dyatchin the half-stroke lead that he needs for the victory.

You will also see the 7-man fight for the remaining Olympic qualification spots where Mark Warkentin of the USA gets in and guarantees his spot in the Beijing Olympics.
