The organizing committee at the 2008 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Seville had 5 cameras on the course video-taping the swimmers at the 10K Olympic qualifyig race. Click on the link below to watch the women's race where you will see scenes from (1) the start of the race, (2) the pack going around the turn buoys, (3) swimmers swimming past the feeding station, (4) when Larisa Ilchenko of Russia pulled away to beat Cassandra Patten of Great Britain to win, and (5) the dramatic finish where Natalie du Toit, the amazing Paralympian from South Africa, finishes fourth.
Natalie, shown in the yellow cap around 1 minute and 30 second mark in the video clip, was just touched out by the bronze medalist from Spain.
This event was the first qualification swim for the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim that will be held at the Beijing Olympics on August 20th. Stay tuned!
