Rough Water In Guam

Dan's Cup Winter Ocean Swim this weekend threw the swimmers for a loop, but a hundred swimmers overcame the heavy surface chop, a strong morning sun and considerable currents throughout the 1K-loop course to finish the 1K, 2K and 5K races.

Daniel O'Keeffe, the namesake of the race, has really established a burgeoning ocean swimming community in Guam.

In addition to the Tumon Bay Ocean Swim (where the last Junior Pacific Pacific Swimming Championships were held), Daniel's programs take advantage of the inherent ocean beauty of Guam.

Ken Barcinas and Daiyju Usui tied for first place in the men's 5K race in 54:51. Ami Morioka won the women's 5K race in 1:09:57.

Misaki Iijima won the women's 2K race in 22:29 and Soujyu Usui won the men's race in 22:33. The women's 1K race was won by Sanda Gugin in 16:17 with Sai Gogineni taking the men's 1K in 17:35.
