We made a mistake in describing feeding sticks earlier in this blog during a story on the 2009 World Swimming Championships.
Shelley Taylor-Smith of FINA's Technical Open Water Swimming Committee correctly pointed out the corrected FINA guidelines governing in feeding sticks:
Feeding Poles can be up to maximum of 5 meters in length with no rope or fishing line hanging from the pole. A flag is acceptable to be hung from the end of the pole the maximum size is A4*.
Please accept our apologies.
