World Championship Men's 10K Results

Thomas Lurz wins an incredibly exciting race with 18-year-old Andrew Gemmell and Fran Crippen coming in second and third. What a finish! There were so many lead changes over the last 500 meters. Incredible.

There are 2 separate protests filed from Russia and Italy. The crowd and the swimmers have been waiting for over an hour for the final decision and final results.

The protests have been filed - and accepted by FINA - by Greece and Italy. Apparently, they protested that American Fran Crippen swam outside the finish chute towards the finish. The swimmers were told to swim within the finish chute, although swimmers typically have the option to swim on either side of the finish chute lane lines. This would lead to the bronze-medal finish of Crippen been taken away and the fourth place swimmer taking his place on the podium. The protest are currently underway. As we learn more information, we will post.

The US is filing an appeal that will be adjudicated later tonight or tomorrow morning by the full FINA Bureau. The swimmers and most of the media has left the venue to await the decision.

Thankyou so much for all your twitters and info. We are from Aussie (Trent's mum). It is hard for us not to be there to watch and cheer. Having no tv coverage in Aust. is killing us. If it wasn't your updates, we would be in the dark. Do you know where Trent came?

The decision will be made tomorrow at 11 am.

who arrived in 4rd?

Trent swam his heart out, as you probably know now. He was swimming on the outside of the main pack as he was coming into the finish. Like Fran, he took a different line, but fell off a bit at the end. It looked to me on TV that he was within the top 10, but so many guys were coming into together, it was very hard to see.

Italian Valerio Cleri finished fourth.
