16-year-old Nick Caine from California and Juliann Galloway from Dublin (by way of Texas) won the men's and women's titles at the Irish Champions of Champions swim in Sandycove Island in Cork, Ireland over the weekend. Among the competitors, 18 English Channel aspirants had the opportunity to prove their ability to withstand the 11-14°C (52-57°F) water and were able to swim with King of the Channel Kevin Murphy who was also in attendance.
Several of the swimmers will attempt an unprecedented 5-mile swim between Portmagee to Knightstown, just south of Valentia Island today.
