Thomas Lurz, the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim bronze medalist, and Angela Maurer, who placed a close fourth in the Olympic 10K in Beijing, both won the German National Open Water Swimming Championships 10K race to qualify for the 2009 World Swimming Championships.
Thomas won in 1:57:37.2 over Christian Reichert's 1:57:41.1. Angela won in 2:01:31.4 over Stefanie Biller in 2:01:36.2 All four swimmers will represent Germany in the 10K race in Rome.
A pre-race favorite Britta Kamrau did not compete as she will focus on the 5K and 25K.
