The Sun Moon Lake Swim, an Open Water Phenomena

Sun Moon Lake is located in the center of Taiwan and is Taiwan's largest lake. Sun Moon Lake is a beautiful lake with emerald green waters. The eastern part of the lake is round like the sun and the western side is shaped like a crescent moon, hence the name Sun Moon Lake.

The lake is situated at 760 meters (2,493 feet) in altitude and is often bathed in sunlight or shrouded in mist in the early mornings or bathed in sunlight when the sun rises over the mountains.

In addition to the beauty of the lake, another man-made phenomena occurs annually: the 3.3K Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival. This remarkable swim is limited to 22,000 participants and has reportedly reached its maximum number of swimmers the last few years.

The event is organized by the Puli Swimming Association. Its chairman, Chen Guei-san, said "The fact that so many swimmers come and take part in the challenge will only encourage more international participants to come."
