In 2008, Michael Phelps and Natalie du Toit were selected as America's and South Africa's Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. Because of the earliest England-to-France channel crossing in history in 17 hours and 16 minutes in ~59°F water, Christian Hübner. was nominated for his hometown's Sportsman of the Year award - Bamberg, a town in Bavaria, Germany.
