The 5.5K Gozo-Malta Open Water Channel Swim (see map on left), annually held in late August, is between Ras il-Qala and Marfa in Malta. Malta is a small nation of seven islands off the coast of Sicily (Italy), making it an ideal open water swimming location in the Mediterranean Sea.
Malta is also the site of a six-part summer open water swimming series, organized by the Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta.
The Birkirkara St. Joseph Open Water Swimming Series include the 2K Bugibba Open Sea Swim and the Sliema Open Sea Swim in June, the 2K Bugibba Open Sea Swim and the 2K Marsascala Open Sea Swim in July, the 4K St. Julian’s Open Sea Swim in August and the 2K Birzebbuga Open Sea Swim in September. All the swims start in the evening hours.
