The Swim Challenge Series, the flagship open water swimming event in South Africa, is a 9-part series and serves as the official seeding events for the world’s largest open water swimming event, Midmar Mile in South Africa. The 36th Halfway Telkom Midmar Mile is on track to draw nearly 20,000 participants this year and may set a new world record for the Guinness Book of Records.
The 2008-2009 Swim Challenge Series includes the following events: Swim Challenge Series #1 in Mpumalanga on October 12th, Swim Challenge Series #2 in Bloemfontein on November 9th, Swim Challenge Series #3 in Klerksdorp on November 2th, Swim Challenge Series #4 in Newcastle on November 16th, Swim Challenge Series #5 in Paarl-WP on November 29-30th, Swim Challenge Series #6 in Durban December 21st, Swim Challenge Series #7 in Northern Reg Championships on January 10-11, 2009, Swim Challenge Series #8 in Eastern Cape Championships on January 17-18, 2009 and the South African Open Water Championships in Bloemfontein on Jan 31st – Feb. 1st 2009.
