ESPY Awards - The Swimming Vote


3 swimmers were nominated for 3 separate 2008 ESPY Awards. The ESPY Awards will be televised on Sunday, July 20th at 9 pm ET on ESPN.

Skip Storch is one of the five nominees for Best Outdoor Athlete. Skip was nominated for completing a triple circumnavigation of Manhattan Island in 32 hours 52 minutes. After his record-breaking swim, Skip was hospitalized for muscle tears, abrasions and hypothermia.

The other nominees include Lance Mackey, a dog musher, who won back-to-back Iditarods, Dave Hahn, a mountain climber who successfully summitted Mt. Everest for the tenth time in 2008, Captain Scott Smiley who was blinded by a roadside bomb in Iraq and is the only person to climb Mt. Raineer, and Skeet Reese who was the 2007 Angler of the Year and won 3 Bassmaster events.

16-year-old swimmer Susan Beth Scott is nominated for the Best Female Athlete with a Disability. Susan set a world record in the 400 freestyle.

Loyola College sophomore Phil Scholz Phil Scholz is nominated for the Best Male Athlete with a Disability. Phil set American records in the 50 butterfly, 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle.
