Outstanding Ocean Lifestyle Event In South Africa

630 swimmers hit the waters in the 12-part Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series this past weekend in Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth.

The Series, held throughout South Africa, has been growing like seaweed.

Race organizer Michael Zoetmulder of Zports said, "The momentum and enthusiasm almost seem unstoppable and not even blustery weather at the first two legs of the race could keep people away. The Series truly has become one of the continent’s premier lifestyle events."

The Series always includes the 1K SPAR Ocean Swim, the 2-3K CROCS Ocean Swim, the 5K PE Beachfront Lodges Beach Run/Walk and the 6K Boardwalk Ocean Paddle. This weekend, Adam Stevenson and Jessica Roux won the SPAR 1km Ocean Swim with Giovanni Falco and Richard von Wildemann placing second and third in the men’s category and Kaleigh Graham and Lauren Billson placing second and third in the women's race.

In the Crocs Ocean Swim, Lawrence van Lingen out-sprinted Michael Marais for first with Byron Lockett placing third. Jessica Roux won the women's over Tammy Geyer and Rebecca Newman.

Additional photographs of Sunday's race can be viewed at the PE Beachfront Lodges website. The third leg of the 12-part Series, which runs from October to April, is on November 1.
