John Jeha Sure Doesn't Look Or Act 50

John Jeha started his 50-in-50-in-50 challenge last November on behalf of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and is wrapping his solo venture next week.

The San Francisco Bay area athlete, starting on his 50th birthday, aimed to complete 50 different endurance events involving running, biking and/or swimming over the course of 50 weeks.

His first event was a 5K pool swim in New York City and he gradually stepped up since then with at least one endurance event every weekend including a Boston Marathon, 129-mile Markleeville Death Ride in Lake Tahoe, the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, the Half Vineman Ironman and the Couer d'Alene Ironman Triathlon in Idaho under his belt. With 49 events completed, John has swum 29.8 miles, biked 813.8 miles and run 277.1 miles with an estimated 5,000 total miles for the year including his training.

John said one of the most fun was the 2.7-mile Donner Lake Swim, "I improved my time by 12 minutes, almost a half-mile faster...I was probably in my best shape in 15 years."

More details on John's accomplishment and an interview with Carl Steward here at the Mercury News.
