Globe-trotting Melissa Gorman Wins Again

Melissa Gorman, this year's world 5K champion, RCP Tiburon Mile winner and a leading nominee for the 2009 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year, took her talents to Fiji after victories in Australia, Rome and San Francisco.

In the 3K race at the Pacific Swims multi-race event on Fiji's beautiful Plantation Island, Melissa won the 3K race in 44:49 over fellow Australians Shelley Clarke in 46:35 and Samantha Rowe in 1:00:09. The men's winner, Craig Magnusson, finished in 46:44 over Barry Donal in 48:47 and Sean Jacobs in 49:01.

Melissa followed that victory up with another win in the 10K race that doubled as the Fiji National Open Water Championships. Melissa won in 2:11:07 over Ayno Yamaguchi in 2:15:27 and Shelley Clarke in 2:19:35. On the men's side, Donal Barry won in 2:25:00 over Jake Freeman in 2:28:42 and Scott Miers in 2:33:45.

In the 1.5K race, Dana Richards won in 29:53 over Chantelle Venmens in 31:00 and Emily Maybin in 32:15. On the men's side, Jake Freeman won in 26:39 over Matt Schweighoffer in 28:36 and Ted McCure in 28:36.
